Art Brut Tajan

« From his appearance, the concept of Outsider Art hasn’t been stopping to question our esthetics perceptions, our art definitions and the certainty about our identity » ABC-Artbrut

Next 30th of January, impressionist and modern art department organizes a sale dedicated to Outsider art, Folk art and “Neuve Invention” at Tajan. This sale will fascinate Outsider Art lovers thank to our 200 lots from two different European collections. In 1945, Jean Dubuffet, French artist and curator, defined the Outsider Art: “We understand by this term works produced by persons unscathed by artistic culture, where mimicry plays little or no part (contrary to the activities of intellectuals). These artists derive everything…from their own depths, and not from the conventions of classical or fashionable art.”

This sale includes important artists of the Outsider and Folk Art movement. Among them, Louis Soutter is one of the most fascinating Swiss artist of 20th century, recognized by his style and his fingers paintings. There are also many art works of Adolf Wölfli, an important figure of the Outsider Art by Dubuffet and a large variety of artists, who share this common denominator of raw creativity ; Camille Bombois, Aloys Zötl, Aloïse Corbaz and Le Douanier Rousseau, representative of the Naïve Art.

Finally, Singular Art or « Neuve Invention » is more turbulent… Always according to Dubuffet, this art movement brings together artists refusing any academic convention. They look for their inspiration from outsider art creativity and popular cultures wealth. For example, that’s the case of Gaston Chaissac, the famous French painter, André Robillard and Michel Nedjar.
